Devotions for a Sacred Marriage 2012

A Prayer to Remember

Ephesians 5

1 Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children. 2 And walk in love, as the Messiah also loved us and gave Himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.

Everyday, millions of couples wake up and evaluate their marriages by asking themselves. “Am I happier today than I was yesterday”

Our questions as Christians  should be, “Lord , how can I love my spouse today like they has never been or ever will be loved?”  When your dating
that is always on your mind.

How often is it on your mind after you get married?

I look forward to your feedback.

  1. I thought this was an interesting thought. I had to read it a few times in the book to understand it better. But Dad your comment helped me make the most sense of it. “When you are dating that is always on your mind.” When you are dating you are trying to “out-love” any other competition for your prospective spouse. When you get married you kind-of settle in to the idea that “I’ve got her/him” and can forget to keep pursuing her/him. This is a good prayer to pray – how do I show love in new ways, in ways only I can.

  2. Romantic love is a continual positive focus. Once we’ve lived together a while we see the flaws. Then the challenge starts and we have to choose to focus on the good in one another. Love is a choice before it becomes a fuzzy feeling. I like fuzzy feelings so it is a great motivater.

My response to the devotion today is different than what I would have entered yesterday. At around 2:30pm on Thursday a friend of ours wife was in a fatal car accident. She is now with the Lord. Life can change so quickly. My question to myself right now is today, yesterday and lasterday did I show and tell Love to my wife. I understand everything I do intentional and unintentional conveys love. God help me to show Beverly love.
